UAE Expo 2020

Dubai Expo 2020 is an international event organized to connect people, ideas and innovation. The Dubai Expo 2020 will be the first of its kind on this scale in the Middle East region. It will also include all themes related to water, energy, food security, mobility and more.

  • Dubai Expo 2020 Timeline

The Dubai Expo 2020 will take place in a span of six months from October 2021 to April 2022. The event aims to attract 25 million visitors, from both the within the region as well as worldwide. All venues for the Dubai Expo 2020 will be enclosed and covered with new technologies, thus allowing it to be a truly zero carbon event.

  • Geography:


Dubai is nestled between the Arabian Gulf and the deserts of Oman and Saudi Arabia. Dubai is also well connected to the rest of the world via being part of the global economy. It is a free zone and thus has many opportunities for international trade and manufacturing.

  • Event Timeline: October 2021 – April 2022

Key Objectives: To connect people, ideas and innovation. The Expo will also provide a platform for businesses to showcase their products and services to millions of visitors from across the world. In addition, it will allow participants to share new technologies, solutions and ideas on how to solve the challenges of future generations.

  • Themes of Expo 2020
  1. Water & Energy:
    The expo will explore the potentials of nature’s most essential resources, water and energy that are vital for life and economy.
  2. Enhancing Food Security:
    Dubai Expo 2020 will focus on the theme of enhancing food security by producing more with less waste and saving resources in production, packaging and transportation.
  3. Mobility and Infrastructure:
    Dubai Expo 2020 will focus on the theme of enhancing mobility and infrastructure for healthy lifestyles, creating smart solutions and reducing environmental impact.
  4. Sustainable Resources:
    The expo aims to demonstrate how human ingenuity can be harnessed to co-exist with nature’s bounty, and this will be achieved by exploring new technologies that discover new raw materials from the earth in order to make resources more efficient, affordable and sustainable.

The Expo 2020 Venues

Dubai has already increased its public transport network to accommodate 25 million visitors during the exhibition. The integration of public transportation services will allow visitors to travel easily and over 1,000 buses will be used as a part of the public transport system. The Dubai Metro Red Line extension project has been completed and will extend its service to Expo 2020 site. In addition, Dubai Tram service will connect all venues. Phase 1 of this project was completed in November 2018 while Phase 2 is expected to be ready by 2021.

Food Zone: The Food Pavilion will provide a mix of restaurants, food stalls and cafes. The pavilion will be divided into two areas: an indoor and outdoor space. There will be an array of food from all over the world for visitors to try and enjoy. Some of the participating countries include Spain, Italy, Brazil, Mexico and more.

Themed Pavilions:

  1. Water: The Water Pavilion will bring together the latest water-based technologies and innovations for public understanding. The Space will include a special IMAX theatre, 3D immersion and more.
  2. Energy: The Energy Pavilion will showcase the most innovative and sustainable forms of energy generation and consumption, together with sustainable strategies that reduce pollution. In addition, there will be an unmanned vehicle terminal that will showcase the future technology in this sector.
  3. Food: The Food Pavilion will focus on how to produce and consume food with the least amount of waste, environmental impact and other related pollutants. This includes new technologies, solutions and products that reduce the use of natural resources and create jobs for people in developing countries. It will include advanced equipment for food processing, packaging, transportation as well as food preparation.
  4. Entertainment & Conference: The Entertainment & Conference Pavilion is a permanent venue for conferences, exhibitions and expositions. There will be space for 200 delegates in one pavilion. The space will also be turned into an entertainment centre during Expo 2020.
  5. Sustainable Development: The Sustainable Development Pavilion will investigate how to reduce the carbon footprint in the UAE, by making it a greener nation with lower emissions. It will showcase innovative technologies and strategies for increasing the efficiency of energy consumption, and improving water usage and pollution control.
  6. Maritime: The Maritime Pavilion will bring together a variety of maritime products and solutions for the shipping industry, ports, terminal companies, oil & gas, fishing and marine food security.
  7. Health: The Health Pavilion will focus on the relationships between a healthy lifestyle and proper exercise. It will include health-oriented products for all members of the family – from children to adults.
  8. Education: The Education Pavilion will focus on how to improve education and science education standards in the UAE. It will highlight the role of teachers in educating students for a healthy lifestyle. It will also provide solutions for child health.
  9. Innovation: The Innovation Pavilion will explore new technologies and solutions for future generations with innovative solutions that can lower environmental impact, conserve resources, increase efficiency and improve quality of life.
  10. Security & Defence: The Security & Defence Pavilion will focus on military solutions and the role of physical security in protecting our future. It will aim to encourage people to take responsibility for their own safety through changing behaviours and using new technologies.
  11. Health & Wellness: The Health Pavilion will provide an overview of current trends in health care, health and wellness products, technologies, services and programmes, healthcare facilities, research and how they contribute to the UAE’s vision 2030 by promoting a healthy lifestyle.
  12. Public Works: The Public Works Pavilion will showcase the infrastructure works and projects that contribute to a sustainable and healthy city, by conserving natural resources and preventing pollution.
  13. Art, Culture & Heritage: The Art, Culture & Heritage Pavilion will showcase the UAE’s cultural heritage and how it contributes to health and well-being in a sustainable manner. The pavilion will also provide an overview of cultural programmes in the UAE with an educational focus.
  14. Education: The Education Pavilion will focus on how to improve education and science education standards in the UAE. It will highlight the role of teachers in educating students for a healthy lifestyle. It will also provide solutions for child health.
  15. Environment: The Environment Pavilion will focus on how to reduce environmental impact in cities, reducing pollution and conserving natural resources and waste in a sustainable manner so as to protect our environment from hazards, disasters and global warming.
  16. Tourism: The Tourism Pavilion will promote tourism to the UAE from all over the world, by showcasing business and entertainment resources for visitors.
  17. Security & Defence: The Security & Defence Pavilion will focus on military solutions and the role of physical security in protecting our future. It will aim to encourage people to take responsibility for their own safety through changing behaviours and using new technologies.
  18. Innovation: The Innovation Pavilion will offer a unique space for companies to promote their products and services, including new technologies and inventions.
  19. Media: The Media Pavilion will provide an overview of the significant role media plays in shaping our attitudes towards health and wellbeing. It will also address the importance of integrated communication and public relations as tools to promote healthy lifestyles.
  20. Special Interests: The Special Interests Pavilion will be dedicated to well-being initiatives for special groups, such as children, women, elderly, etc…
